History:
The Manufacture de Porcelaine de Monaco was founded in 1972 by Erich Rozewicz with the encouragement and support of His Serene Highness Prince Rainier III and Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco.
From the very beginning, the Manufacture de Monaco has produced luxury quality porcelain distinguished by being very white, hard and translucent. This quality is achieved thanks to the unique skills of specialist craftsmen, and through a very critical selection of each finished article.
In recognition of his achievement, Erich Rozewicz was awarded the Prix de Promotion Internationale 1986 in the field of Art - Porcelain - Ceramics by the Institut International de Promotion et de Prestige, affiliated to UNESCO. This award has in the past been granted to persons, companies and organizations such as NASA, Commandant Cousteau, the Curie Institute, the Manufacture de Sèvres, the Vienna Opera and Porsche..
In 1987, Erich Rozewicz was nominated to be Chevalier de l'Ordre de Saint-Charles by His Serene Highness Prince Rainier III. This is a very high distinction given by the Prince to a select few. In 1997, he was "upgraded" to be Officier de l'Ordre de saint-Charles.
He was also the founder of the «Law of Tectonic Unity» which was endorsed and commended by the celebrated artist and architect Le Corbusier, as well as by Professor Neufert of Bauhaus fame, among others.
This law and the systems of design flowing from it allow for an infinite variety of decorative creations and an endless renewal of forms which together result in perfect artistic unity.
The original decorative designs were inspired by the rosettes and mosaics found in the Palace of the Prince, works of art reminiscent of the great civilizations of the Mediterranean Sea. In a market where major manufacturers can so easily lose their identity by following the fashion of the moment instead of dreaming new dreams, the Manufacture de Monaco distinguishes itself by its constantly renewed creations.
Luxurious and refined gift-articles, decorative accessories and, of course, a variety of tableware are appreciated by connoisseurs from all over the world for their unique style.
Erich Rozewicz has for ever searched new ways to improve on the quality and beauty of his products. Now with the active involvement of his son and daughter to whom, over many years, he has passed on his unique savoir-faire, the Manufacture de Porcelaine ade Monaco can look forward to perpetuating its tradition of creating beautiful pieces of porcelain.
